Passengers across the South whose flights have been disrupted by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East are being offered greater flexibility when travelling by rail.

Govia Thameslink Railway has introduced special arrangements for customers whose journeys have been affected by flight cancellations, diversions or rescheduled departures.

The temporary measures apply to services operated by Southern, Thameslink, Gatwick Express and Great Northern.

The rail operator says ticket restrictions have been relaxed to help passengers whose travel plans have changed unexpectedly as a result of the situation overseas.

Under the arrangements, customers travelling to or from Gatwick Airport or Luton Airport will still be able to use their existing train tickets, even if their flight is now scheduled at a different time.

This means passengers who arrive back into the UK later than planned, or who need to travel earlier or later to catch a rescheduled flight, will not need to purchase a new rail ticket.

The move is designed to provide reassurance for travellers facing disruption, particularly those returning to the UK after flights have been diverted or cancelled.

Govia Thameslink Railway operates a large network of services across the South of England, including routes linking London with Sussex, Surrey, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, as well as key airport connections.

Passengers are still being advised to check the latest travel information before setting out, as the situation in the Middle East continues to affect some international flight schedules.

Rail services to Gatwick and Luton airports remain operational, with the relaxed ticket policy intended to help passengers complete their journeys as smoothly as possible.
