The families of the 11 men who lost their lives in the Shoreham Airshow disaster nearly a decade ago have expressed relief following the news that the pilot involved will never fly again.
On August 22, 2015, former RAF pilot Andy Hill was flying a vintage Hawker Hunter jet during a display at the Shoreham Airshow when the aircraft crashed onto the A27. The tragic incident claimed the lives of 11 men, most of whom were simply going about their daily lives on the busy road. The crash caused devastation in the local community and left lasting scars on the families of the victims.
This week, Mr. Hill’s final attempt to have his flying licence reinstated was rejected by the High Court in London. The decision has brought a sense of closure to many of the bereaved families. They have welcomed the ruling.
A coroner blamed Mr Hill for the crash at an inquest in 2022, but an Old Bailey jury cleared him of manslaughter in 2019.
