Sussex Police continues its journey as an inclusive employer with independent recognition in the list of top 100 organisations to work for by leading LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall.
The charity ranked Sussex Police 49th in its ‘Top 100 Employers 2021’ list and it also received a ‘Gold Award’ for its commitment to inclusion of LGBTQ+ people in the workplace.
The force has consistently featured in the charity’s recent rankings, rising by 19 places after being placed 68th in 2020 and 81st in 2019.
Stonewall say it’s Top 100 Employers list is compiled from the Workplace Equality Index which is the UK’s leading benchmarking tool for LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace. The annual survey is voluntary and allows employers to measure, verify and improve their inclusion practice.
Chief Constable Jo Shiner said: “We know people deliver their best work when they can be their true selves and we work hard to ensure that Sussex Police is both welcoming and inclusive so that we truly reflect the communities we serve. This is something that I am passionate about.
“I’m therefore extremely proud that, once again, we are recognised by Stonewall as an inclusive employer and, whilst accepting there is always more work to do, this award is credit to everyone striving to develop the strength in diversity within Sussex Police.”
