Today marks a special milestone for V2 Radio as the station celebrates its fifth birthday.
The station first went on air on the 18th of January 2021, having been conceived and new studio's built during the Covid-19 pandemic, before officially launching on DAB a year later.
V2 Radio set out with a clear mission – to restore a strong local voice to communities across Sussex and beyond.
The idea for the station was born after Spirit FM was taken over, rebranded and turned into a national service, leaving what many felt was a significant gap in genuinely local broadcasting.
Five years on, V2 Radio broadcasts live every day from its studios in Chichester, delivering the best music, local news, travel, weather and information that matters to the people who live and work in the area, with dedicated loyal listeners. Fans of the station can get involved with the “We Love V2 Radio Club” – giving them access to special offers, unique events and other exciting, exclusive opportunities.
Founder Justin Cottrell says he is proud of what the station has achieved so far. He says the focus has always been on providing trusted local news information, entertainment, and doing good in the community.
The station works closely with charities and community groups, helping them share their messages with a wider audience, and regularly supports fundraising initiatives, including its annual Christmas toy appeal to help families in need.
V2 Radio also plays a key role in supporting the local economy, helping businesses connect directly with their communities through local advertising and partnerships.
Justin says this is exactly what local radio should be about – serving the community, reflecting local life and being there when it matters most. As V2 Radio celebrates its fifth birthday, he says he’s excited to see what the next five years will bring for the station and its listeners.
