Twelve students from Worthing College have successfully completed a five-day training programme with West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, helping them develop confidence, resilience and valuable life skills.
The students took part in the latest IGNITE course, an initiative designed to support young people's personal development, improve their wellbeing and encourage teamwork through practical firefighting activities.
Throughout the week, participants were given the opportunity to experience a range of firefighter-style exercises, including hose-running drills, first aid training, communication tasks and team-building challenges.
The activities were designed to encourage students to step outside their comfort zones, work together and develop skills that could benefit them in education, employment and everyday life.
The programme also focused on strengthening relationships, building self-belief and helping young people make a positive contribution to their communities.
To celebrate their achievements, a special pass-out parade was held at Lancing Fire Station on Friday 23 October, attended by proud family members and friends.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer Andy Piller attended the ceremony and presented certificates to all twelve students in recognition of their hard work and commitment throughout the course.
Speaking after the event, he praised the determination shown by those taking part.
He said: "It has been fantastic to see and hear about the progress these young people have made over the course of the week. They have stepped outside their comfort zones, supported one another through challenges and shown real determination and resilience.
"The confidence, teamwork and communication skills they have developed through IGNITE will serve them well in all aspects of their lives, and they should be extremely proud of everything they have achieved.
"On behalf of West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, I would like to congratulate each of them on completing the course and wish them every success for the future."
