Boy, 16, seriously injured after 'horrific' machete attack

A 16-year-old boy is in hospital with serious injuries after a "horrific" machete attack, police have said.

The teenager is believed to have been attacked by two young men in the area of Duncan Edwards Close, Dudley, just before 2pm on Saturday, West Midlands Police said.

He was walking when he was approached by the men, who were on a moped.

The men attacked the boy, then fled, leaving him with serious injuries to his chest and face, according to the force.

He was taken to hospital, has undergone surgery and is in a serious but stable condition, police said on Sunday.

CCTV and mobile phone footage has been recovered by police, who have appealed for witnesses.

Detective inspector Joe Davenport, from the force's major crime unit, said: "This was an horrific attack in the middle of the day and it could easily have resulted in this boy losing his life.

"We've been working tirelessly since then to understand exactly what happened, and who was responsible, and I'd urge anyone with information to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

Information can be provided through the force's website or by calling 101 quoting log 2561 of 23 May.
