Four teenagers and a man in his 20s have been arrested after a man was hit by a car and later died in hospital.
Matthew Weller, 44, was struck by a VW Passat in the centre of Accrington, Lancashire, at around 10pm on Wednesday.
Mr Weller, who was from the town, suffered serious injuries and later died in hospital.
The car did not stop at the scene and was later found abandoned about a mile away elsewhere in the town, police said.
The next day police arrested five men - three aged 17, one 23-year-old from Accrington and one 18-year-old from Blackburn - all on suspicion of murder.
Lancashire Constabulary said all five suspects are still being held in custody while the investigation continues.
Detective Superintendent Mark Dickinson, from the force's major investigation team, called for any witnesses to come forward.
He also urged anyone with mobile phone, CCTV and dashcam footage to get in touch with police.

"I know that people in the community are shocked by last night's events.
"But please rest assured that we are doing all we can to establish what has happened and to find those responsible for this man's death."
