Lee Hockey: New images of man found dead in Truro woods as police investigate possible murder

Wednesday, 1 July 2026 16:46

New CCTV images have been released by police of a man pictured in the days before he was found dead in woodland in Cornwall.

They came as officers launched a fresh appeal for information on the first anniversary of Lee Hockey's body being discovered between Truro and Probus on 1 July 2025.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the death of the 50-year-old from Truro was being treated as unexplained. They said murder was "one potential hypothesis detectives continue to fully investigate".

Detectives are asking for the public's help to find a number of his missing personal belongings.

These include a black satchel-style bag which was shown on the new CCTV images of Mr Hockey taken at Tesco Express in Truro on 22 June last year.

His passport and Barclays bank card with the full name Lee Hockey on it and a pink iPhone 13 are also missing.

Detectives have been continuing enquiries and searches to work out the circumstances of Mr Hockey's death and trace his final movements.

They have already searched the woods and ponds for his missing bag. The last confirmed sighting of him was in the Trispen area, north of Truro, on 23 June 2025.

He spent most of that day in Truro city centre before taking a bus to the Trispen area and the last confirmed sighting of him was there later that evening.

His whereabouts from there are unknown, but it is likely he would have been on foot.

His family said in a statement that they are "thankful for all the support over the last 12 months but are still looking for closure over what happened to him".

"If anyone has any information, no matter how small, please come forward."

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Smith, who is leading the investigation, said: "Lee's family are marking the one-year anniversary of his loss and still have many unanswered questions about the lead-up to his death.

"While we are very grateful for the help we have received from the public so far, we still believe that someone out there could hold critical information to help us find out what happened to him."

Mr Smith added: "We are still keen to hear from anyone who saw Lee between 23 June and 1 July.

"Anyone who passed through Trispen, Tresillian or the surrounding villages is urged to contact us, and we are asking those who may have retained dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage in those areas to check them for any sightings of Lee.

"Any piece of information, however small, could be vital to our enquiries."
