A woman and a man have been killed in an explosion after a reported domestic-related incident, police have said.
Officers were called to Sternourt Road, Bristol, at 6.17am on Saturday. There was an explosion at around 6.30am, shortly before they arrived, Avon and Somerset Police Superintendent Matt Ebbs said at a news conference.
Three other people - a man, a woman and a child - suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital. "There is not believed to be any significant damage to other properties," police said.
Police described the explosion as "suspicious" and declared a major incident. But it is not being treated as terror-related.
Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the blast.
Avon and Somerset Police said a cordon had been put in place at Sterncourt Road "as a precaution to help keep the public safe".
It said people living within the cordon were "being evacuated to a temporary rest centre".
The cordon is expected to remain in place until "at least the evening", Supt Ebbs said, adding: "Public safety will always be our priority, and we will reduce the cordon as soon as it's safe for people to return to their homes."
Around 70 residents were evacuated to the rest centre - a nearby pub - and handed free food and drink, according to Bristol Live.
Officers are making enquiries at a separate address in Speedwell, Bristol, "which is linked to the man who died", Mr Ebbs said. No one had to be evacuated at this scene, he added.
Avon and Somerset Police have said they are working with the emergency services and Bristol Council in response to the explosion.

The British Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit carried out searches as a precaution, Supt Ebbs said.
He added: "We know this incident will be of great concern to those living in the affected communities, and our neighbourhood policing teams will be carrying out patrols to provide reassurance and advice, and if anyone is worried or concerned, please speak to an officer."
