Anne Scott, known to colleagues as Annie Marodeen, has been told she could be the "oldest carer in the country"

An 80-year-old former actress who starred in the 'Carry On' franchise has shared the details of the career journey that brought her off the screen and into the caring world.

Anne Scott, known to colleagues as Annie Marodeen, celebrated her 80th birthday earlier this month and has been told by others that she could be the "oldest carer in the country". She first appeared on screen in the 1955 film "The Reluctant Bride" and acted in other films before she landed her roles in Carry On.

Speaking to V2 Radio about the beginning of her career, Annie said: "I was born in London, I  grew up there, and I went to the Aida Foster School and trained to be a dancer.

"I did acting, television films, I did a lot of Carry On films and Hammer horror films. I did a lot of television.”

Annie added that she loves the process of filming, although "It can be boring because you’re sitting around, waiting for the lighting or camera crew to be set up, make up to be redone, change of costumes et cetera.”

But as much as Annie adores acting, caring has a special place in her heart. Working at Caremark Chichester, she finds it's the people that she looks after which makes her job so enjoyable.

She said: "I've been doing [caring] for two and a half years, and I love it. It's the people I meet, the people that we look after. It's going into homes and being greeted with 'Annie, oh it's so good to see you!'"

Advising anyone who wants to go into the caring profession, Annie shared that the most important qualities to have are "empathy for other people" and "being patient", alongside time-keeping and "loving what you do".

As she marks her 80th year, V2 Radio had to ask Annie how long she plans to keep on working as a carer.

"As long as I can," She replied. "As long as I'm fit, I'm well and I've got the energy, I will carry on doing it."

Annie has also moved into the writing world too, publishing her first novel "Sex, Drugs Rock & Roll" last year.
