A 'non-essential' crash in Chichester causes unnecessary work for front line workers

A motorist has been slammed by one of Sussex Police Roads Policing Unit staff members for wasting the time of emergency responders, while on a non-essential trip.

The crash happened on the A286 north of Chichester over the weekend.

During lockdown we are being told to stay at home, unless on an essential trip, such as if you cannot work from home.

PC Tom Van Der Wee is stressing to residents in Sussex they need to stay at home, as the front line workers could be better used elsewhere.

The crash meant that three policing units, two ambulances, two fire engines and A&E staff were called to attend the scene.

Those in the crash are "relatively OK" but the one non-essential journey caused a lot of "unnecessary work for us all" he said.
