The MP for Portsmouth North, Amanda Martin, has welcomed a major funding boost for the city under plans announced by the Labour Government.
Portsmouth is set to receive more than sixty-two million pounds for essential services, giving the city council a twenty-eight per cent increase in spending power.
Amanda Martin says the funding will support services like libraries, roads and high streets, with ministers saying the changes will target areas with the greatest need.
Labour Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Steve Reed said:
“This is a turning point, a chance to turn the page on a decade of cuts and callousness, and for local leaders to invest in getting back what has been lost – to bring back libraries, youth services, clean streets, and community hubs.
"For too long, deprived communities were left behind. Today we're ending the postcode lottery so everyone can access the services their community deserves."
Local Labour MP, Amanda Martin said:
“After campaigning for fairer funding for Portsmouth, I am thrilled with the news of a £62.1mn cash injection for our Council.
“This will make a real difference to my constituents lives by boosting the services we all rely on. It means more money for our high streets, our libraries, and our roads.
“After 14 years of austerity, Labour is putting money back into our local services, reversing Tory decline, and, most importantly, putting money back into working people’s pockets.”
