Busy bank holiday weekend for fire fighters in Sussex

Fire crews have fought a wildfire at Saxton Farm near Horsham, the incident took place on Sunday.

Hours later, four engines were called to a house fire in Walberton.

On Monday, four more tackled a flat blaze in East Grinstead, crews also dealt with a wildfire in Barcombe.

What to do if you see a wildfire:

If you spot a wildfire in Sussex (or anywhere in the UK), here’s what you should do:

  1. Call 999 immediately.

  • Ask for the fire service and give the exact location (use landmarks, road names, or What3Words if you can).

  1. Keep yourself safe.

  • Do not try to tackle the fire yourself.

  • Move away to a safe distance, staying upwind if possible.

  1. Warn others nearby.

  • Alert people in the area so they can move to safety too.

  1. Avoid blocking access.

  • Keep tracks, roads and gateways clear so fire engines can get through.

  1. Stay updated.
