Chichester City Council will be lighting up the council House and Market Cross in purple tonight.

It comes as it's the national Holocaust Memorial Day today. The day is to remember the 6 million Jews who died during the second world war.

The day was first held in January 2001 and has been on the same date (27 January) every year, as it is the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp by the Soviet Union in 1945.

The local authorities have said the theme is "Be the light in the darkness".

The picture is from the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust of Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines, 91, who was evacuated from Prague to the UK as a nine-year-old girl on Sir Nicholas Winton’s Kindertransport scheme and has described the importance of remembering the Holocaust.
