Colleges across West Sussex raise cash for Comic Relief

Colleges across West Sussex raised hundreds of pounds as part of their Red Nose Day fundraising.

Staff and students at Chichester College Group colleges – which include Chichester, Brinsbury, Crawley, Haywards Heath and Worthing Colleges – joined in the fun last week, raising nearly £650 for Comic Relief.

The day was part of the group's commitment to fundraising. Since September 2021, the group's generous students and staff have raised nearly £4,000 across the five colleges for a range of charities including Stonepillow, Alzheimer's Society, Save the Children among others.

At the group's land-based Brinsbury College, students and staff took part in a 'welly wanging' competition which saw Alfie and Meghan win prizes as the best welly throwers at the college.

While staff put themselves in the 'splash zone' as colleagues and students gave donations in exchange for the opportunity to throw wet sponges at them - and there was even a chance to 'Soak The Chief Exec' at Chichester College with Andy Green getting a soaking at the hands of some keen staff members.

And across the group, people were encouraged to don red to show their support for the charity.

Lisa Humphries, Director of Student Services and Pastoral Support for the Chichester College Group, said: “What a fantastic effort by our students and staff across all of our colleges.

"It was brilliant to see everyone embracing the spirit of Comic Relief and raising money for charity - from bake sales to welly wanging, the support they've given us has been amazing.

"As a group, we have a long and proud history of supporting good causes and charities - locally and nationally. That's something that is fully embedded into our college communities."
