Horsham District Council has delayed making a decision on whether or not to withdraw its Local Plan.

The decision was due to be made during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, August 6, but has been pushed back to September.

In December, 2024, the examination of the Plan for 2023-2040 was halted by inspector Luke Fleming, who then wrote to the council in March recommending that it be withdrawn.

During a scrutiny committee meeting on Wednesday, July 23, officers stressed the authority did not agree with the inspector’s findings.

It was agreed that the council would write to the Planning Inspectorate to ask for Mr Fleming’s recommendation to be reconsidered. As such, a spokesman said the decision on whether or not to officially withdraw the plan would be delayed.

Whether or not the Planning Inspectorate responds to the letter before the September meeting remains to be seen.
