Discover more about Chichester Canal at Heritage Open Day

Chichester Ship Canal Trust, the charity behind Chichester Canal, is taking part in Heritage Open Days for the first time.

The popular national event encourages people to celebrate our history and culture. As the 200th anniversary of the canal gets closer (April 2022), the Trust wants to help more people discover the canal.

On Saturday 11th September the volunteers will be helping families to learn more about what makes the canal such a special and unique place. They'll be opening the doors of their award-winning Heritage Centre, offering two different trails (age appropriate), there'll be craft on offer and a display about the canal, as well as hopefully a surprise visit from a historical character.

The activities will run from 10am - 12 noon and again 1 - 3pm. There is no need to book and no charge, simply drop in. The popular waterside cafe will be open so go along and make a day of it! Please note parents will need to be responsible for their children and must remain with them at all times.

Catherine Cannon, Trustee, said ‘We’re particularly keen to help families discover more about the canal and the different ways they can enjoy it, and learn about the history of the canal and why it’s such a special place. We hope taking part in the Heritage Open Days will encourage families to visit and explore. With our 200th birthday celebrations planned throughout 2022 there’s a lot of history to take in!’
