West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has dealt with a major flooding incident in Littlehampton.
Crews were called to South Terrace at around 7:20pm last night, with three fire engines pumping floodwater from basement properties.
A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “We were called at 7.20pm last night (18 February) to reports of flooding in South Terrace, Littlehampton.
“Joint Fire Control mobilised three fire engines to the scene.
“Upon arrival crews were met with rising water levels in the surrounding area and quickly identified that several basement properties were under threat of flooding. Firefighters pumped floodwater from the affected properties.
“Sussex Police and officers from Southern Water and Arun District Council were also in attendance.
“The last crew left the scene at 12.45am this morning.”
Meanwhile, West Sussex County Council has closed the A29 at Shripney Road after an estimated two weeks’ worth of rain fell in just 24 hours.
Exceptionally heavy rain has caused severe flooding, and teams are working to reopen the road as soon as it’s safe.
