From pub to playground: Chichester primary school gets new furniture from local boozer

The unusual partnership formed between The Bell Inn and Sidlesham Primary School

A Chichester primary school has received a donation of furniture from an unlikely partner - a local pub.

Sidlesham Primary School was given outdoor benches after being contacted by the Bell Inn's Landlord and Landlady, who wanted to see if they knew anybody who could put them to use. The chance phone call led to the donation of much needed furniture to the school, with parents volunteering to help with the move from pub to playground.

Michelle Clatworthy, the Bell Inn's Landlady, described the donation as "fortuitous" as she recounted the story.

"We needed to move the furniture on as we are redesigning our outside area and the school expressed a need.

"Supporting our local community is really important to us, so we were really pleased to be able to help. We hope the children get many happy years of use out of the tables and benches."

Sidlesham Primary School's deputy headteacher, James Blake-Lobb, has also expressed his gratitude for the furniture.

"Outdoor learning is very important to us at Sidlesham Primary School and these new tables and benches will help us take advantage of our beautiful surroundings even more.

"We've had a need for the picnic tables for quite some time and to get them donated is a very fortunate blessing."
