A teenage girl from Selsey is at the centre of a major community fundraising effort after being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
Kelcee, 17, should be preparing to celebrate her 18th birthday in May. Instead, she is undergoing intensive treatment after being diagnosed on January 7. Her family say they were told 91 per cent of her body was affected by the disease — news they described as devastating.
She immediately began a five-week course of chemotherapy, showing what her family call “incredible strength and bravery”. However, the initial treatment did not clear the cancer, and she is now facing a further two years of chemotherapy.
In response, the Selsey community has rallied in remarkable fashion. Friends, residents and local businesses have organised a large fundraising raffle to support Kelcee and her family during what is expected to be a long and difficult journey.
The event will take place at The Victory Club in Selsey on April 17 at 7pm, with free entry and raffle tickets priced at £2. They are available from several locations across the town, including Paula’s Salon, The Neptune, The Victory Club and The Boulevard, where Kelcee previously worked.
Dozens of prizes have been donated, ranging from beauty treatments and gym memberships to restaurant vouchers and cash prizes, reflecting what organisers describe as an “overwhelming” show of local generosity.
Alongside the raffle, an online fundraising page has also been launched, attracting donations from across the wider community.
Kelcee’s family say the money raised will help ease financial pressures while also giving her opportunities to enjoy moments of normality, including days out and time with loved ones.
They hope the campaign will help make her upcoming 18th birthday a special and joyful occasion, despite the challenges she faces.
