Selsey RNLI is inviting the community to take the plunge this May Bank Holiday weekend as it hosts its second “Seal Dip” fundraiser.
The event, organised by Selsey RNLI Lifeboat Station, will take place on Sunday 3 May at East Beach Green, raising vital funds to support the lifesaving work carried out by volunteer crews.
Participants are being encouraged to brave a quick dip in the sea, where water temperatures typically average around 11°C in May. Organisers say the challenge is a fun and memorable way to support the RNLI while testing participants’ courage in chilly conditions.
The event will begin at 9am, with the first group of participants set to enter the water from 10am. It forms part of a wider month of fundraising activities taking place in support of the RNLI.
Entry costs £5 per person, and those taking part are encouraged to boost their fundraising efforts by gaining sponsorship from friends and family. Supporters can also set up their own fundraising pages online to maximise donations.
Anyone wishing to take part can register via Eventbrite at . Participants can also create a fundraising page at .
Organisers say the event is open to all, whether seasoned sea swimmers or first-time dippers, and promises a lively and supportive atmosphere on the day.
The RNLI relies heavily on donations to continue its work saving lives at sea, and events like the Seal Dip play an important role in helping to fund its services locally and across the UK.
