Residents in Bognor Regis are being asked to have their say on the future of the town’s historic Town Hall.
Bognor Regis Town Council has launched a public consultation asking whether it should consider purchasing Bognor Regis Town Hall from Arun District Council.
The Town Hall is a Grade Two listed building and has played a central role in civic life in the town for nearly a century.
It has hosted council meetings, public events and community activity, and remains one of Bognor Regis’ best-known landmarks.
The building currently houses both Arun District Council and Bognor Regis Town Council, while also offering in-person support for members of the public.
Arun District Council is currently reviewing its property assets and may offer the Town Hall for sale.
Bognor Regis Town Council says buying the building could help secure its future use for the town, protect its historic character, and ensure it continues to serve the local community.
However, the council is also warning that purchasing, maintaining and running a listed historic building would be a significant financial commitment.
It says any purchase would likely require an increase in the Town Council precept, which forms part of residents’ council tax.
The consultation is designed to gather local views before any further steps are considered.
Residents are being encouraged to share their opinions by answering the council’s consultation questions.
The town council says feedback from the public will help inform its next steps as discussions continue over the future of the building.
