Families heading to Littlehampton beach are being urged to take extra care as the warmer weather looks set to continue.
Arun District Council has issued safety advice after Beach Patrol dealt with an exceptionally busy weekend on the seafront.
Over the weekend during the bank holiday, Beach Patrol responded to 42 reports of lost or missing children and vulnerable adults.
They also carried out five water rescues at First Bay in Littlehampton alone.
With more people expected to visit the coast during the warmer weather, the council is asking families to plan ahead before they arrive.
Parents and guardians are being encouraged to pack sun hats, UV protection cream and a parasol or shade where possible.
When they get to the beach, families are being asked to head straight to the Beach Patrol Office on the promenade to collect a free child safety wristband.
A contact number can be written on the wristband before it is secured to the child’s wrist, helping Beach Patrol reunite families more quickly if someone becomes separated.
Parents are also advised to take a photo of their child when they arrive, so they can clearly describe what they are wearing if they go missing.
Children should also be told that they can go to the Beach Patrol Office if they need help. Arun District Council says all Beach Patrol staff are DBS checked.
The advice is being issued as part of efforts to keep everyone safe while enjoying the sunshine.
Visitors are also being reminded to follow safety advice on the beach and in the water, especially during busy periods when children can become separated quickly.
