The family of a British couple from East Sussex detained in Iran have voiced growing concern for their wellbeing, saying both are suffering worsening health problems while in custody.
Lindsay and Craig Foreman were taken into custody in January during what was meant to be the adventure of a lifetime – a round-the-world motorcycle tour. Instead, the couple now find themselves at the centre of a diplomatic and legal struggle after being accused of espionage by Iranian authorities, allegations they strenuously deny.
Relatives say Lindsay has become so unwell that she has required intravenous treatment and has been placed on a drip while in prison. Craig, meanwhile, has reportedly endured several episodes of illness since their detention began. The family have described the situation as deeply worrying and are urging for urgent action to ensure they receive proper medical care.
The couple’s detention is the latest in a series of cases involving foreign nationals held in Iran, often under accusations of espionage or national security violations. Campaigners and human rights organisations have long argued that such cases are politically motivated, and that detainees are frequently used as leverage in wider disputes between Tehran and Western governments.
The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has reiterated its warning that all British and British-Iranian nationals should avoid travel to Iran. The department said it was aware of the Foremans’ case and was in contact with the family, though it declined to comment on specifics.
