Hampshire County Council has approved a £2.2million spend in a bid to strengthen its cybersecurity system and protect critical digital services.
The funding will go towards new technology designed to help defend the council’s IT systems against growing online threats.
Some of the cybersecurity protections include firewalling and virtual private networking.
A spokesperson for the council said that while the details of the contract cannot be disclosed due to security reasons, investing in the “best” security measures is a priority.
The spokesperson said: “We have a responsibility to protect the data of those who use our services and so constantly review our security arrangements and capabilities to ensure our systems remain robust and offer the best possible protection for residents and the various partners with whom we work.
“Like other similar organisations, we need to be aware and responsive to the ever-changing threats and global issues that heighten the ongoing need for security of this type.”
