The much-anticipated Switch On event in Littlehampton, originally scheduled for Saturday, 22nd of November 2025, has been postponed following forecasts of strong winds.
Organisers say the decision was made to ensure everyone's safety, as gusts are expected to be too severe for the event to go ahead as planned.
However, the delay hasn’t stopped the town from sharing a little seasonal cheer. A selection of Christmas lights was officially illuminated this evening in an intimate, informal gathering arranged so that residents would not have to wait for the full two-week postponement to enjoy some festive spirit. The moment was led by the Mayor of Littlehampton, Councillor Alan Butcher, who was joined by Kyra and her sister Bella for the switch-on. The trio activated the display to warm applause from those who had gathered to watch, bringing a welcome glow to the High Street despite the blustery forecast.
Unplanned partial Christmas lights switch-on earlier today (21/11/2025)
Local businesses and community groups have expressed their appreciation for the partial switch-on, saying it helps maintain momentum for the town’s Christmas season.
Looking ahead, residents are being encouraged to mark Saturday 6 December in their diaries. Littlehampton’s High Street will host a full day of free festive activities, including family entertainment, live performances and seasonal stalls. Organisers say more details will be released next week, but they promise a lively programme designed to bring the community together and support local traders during the busy Christmas period.
But there is some welcome festive news for Christmas lights fans — Light Up Chichester 2025 is still going ahead as planned on Saturday 22 November.
The city will be buzzing with festive cheer from 10am to 6pm, with the main Christmas Lights Switch-On at 5pm, followed by an After Party spread across venues throughout Chichester.
East Street, North Street and The Cross will host a full day of seasonal entertainment, family activities and festive stalls. Highlights include a Pop-Up Food and Drink Market on East Street, running from 10am to 6pm, featuring 18 traders serving mulled cider, hot chocolate, street food, sweet treats and more.
Local favourites such as Fernleigh, George & Dragon, The Chantry, Hoxton Bakehouse, The Escapist, Crafty Bishop, The Ivy, Robin’s Nest Coffee Shop, Flapjackery and The Sweet Jar will be joined by other artisan producers offering pizza, samosas, baklava, Turkish delight, fudge, crepes, roasted chestnuts and plenty of festive flavours.
V2 Radio will also be there, handing out goodies and entertaining the crowds as Chichester counts down to the big switch-on.
