West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service are sharing their tips on how to prevent a kitchen fire today for Pancake Day.
Pancake Day is a lot of fun but the local authorities are urging residents to stay safe whilst cooking them.
It comes as Sussex Fire service say more than 50% of accidental fires at home are started by cooking - most kitchen fires occur when people are distracted or leave things unattended.
Here are some tips if you are spending your Tuesday evening flipping those traditional pancakes:
- Never leave the pan unattended when the heat is switched on.
- Do not move the pan if it is on fire, if it does set on fire, call 999 and get everyone out of your home. Try turn the heat off, if it is safe to do so and place a fire blanket over the pan if you have one.
- Never put food in the pan if the oil begins to smoke.
- Always supervise children in the kitchen.
Oh sugar, we almost forgot it was #PancakeDay! 🥞
