Police say a man has died and a teenager has been taken to hospital following a serious crash on the A27 near the Amex Stadium, just outside Brighton.
The collision happened during the early hours of this morning.
The closure on the A27 has been extended to include the westbound carriageway between the Kingston Roundabout and the Carden Avenue junction.
Drivers are facing significant delays, with long journey times reported.
Police say the road is expected to remain closed for some time while investigations continue.
Sussex Police have released the following statement:
Emergency services were called to a report of a serious collision involving a single vehicle on the A27 westbound near the Amex stadium at Falmer at 2am on Wednesday (28 January).
One man was sadly declared deceased at the scene, his next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with his family during this time.
A 16-year-old boy has been taken to hospital to be treated for injuries.
No arrests have been made.
The road closure on the A27 has been extended and is now in place on the westbound carriageway of the A27 between the Kingston roundabout and the Carden Avenue, Brighton junction.
We advise motorists to plan alternative routes to avoid the area.
