The MP for Crowborough has said she shares residents’ concern and frustration over plans to close the town’s Lloyds Bank branch.
Nusrat Ghani confirmed the closure is expected to take place in June and described it as particularly disappointing for the community. She said the move would leave Crowborough without a single bank branch on the High Street.
In a statement, Ms Ghani highlighted that the town has already seen the closure of other major banks, with both Santander and Barclays having shut their Crowborough branches in recent years. She said this has steadily reduced access to in-person banking services for residents and businesses.
Concerns have also been raised locally about the wider impact on the High Street, with residents fearing the closure could reduce footfall and make everyday banking more difficult for people living in and around the town.
Lloyds Banking Group has previously said branch closures are driven by a continued shift towards digital banking.
