Plans in place for Jubilee celebrations

West Sussex County Council has announced some of the events to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations which take place from Thursday June 2nd to Sunday June 5th.

These include:

  • West Sussex schools hosting their own events with pupils and staff before schools break up for half term.
  • Meals on Wheels customers receiving lemon drizzle cake as part of their meal to celebrate the occasion.
  • West Sussex Libraries hosting a number of events, including Royal Storytimes, Hunt the Missing Corgis, Royal Afternoon Tea and other free events for people of all ages.

Pete Bradbury, Chairman of the County Council, said “Along with all of my council colleagues and on behalf of residents of West Sussex, I’m delighted to congratulate Her Majesty and we are very much looking forward to joining in the celebrations marking her 70 years of service to the British people.

“Our county has been fortunate to be involved in the history of Queen Elizabeth, from having her build sandcastles near Bognor Regis in 1929 as a princess, to her more recent royal visit in 2017 when she met with the Canine Partners charity in Midhurst and watched a performance by Chichester Festival Theatre’s Youth Theatre. She is one of the most recognisable figures in British history and we are proud to have such a strong affiliation with Her Majesty.”
