Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has visited Peacehaven Mosque following a suspected arson attack earlier this month, in a show of solidarity with the local Muslim community.
During his visit, Sir Keir met with community leaders, worshippers, and local councillors to discuss the impact of the attack and the importance of ensuring that places of worship remain safe and welcoming for everyone. He praised the response of the local community and emergency services.
The visit came as Sussex Police confirmed that three men have been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life in connection with the fire. A 34-year-old and a 42-year-old from Peacehaven, and a 38-year-old from Seaford – remain in police custody while enquiries continue.
Sir Keir used the visit to pledge an additional £10 million in security funding to help protect Muslim communities across the country from hate crimes and attacks. The funding will be used to strengthen security at mosques, community centres, and other religious sites, providing measures such as CCTV, alarms, and better lighting.
