Rail passengers across the South East are being warned to expect disruption for the rest of the day, following what train operators have described as “multiple incidents” across the network.
The problems began earlier this morning and include faulty signalling equipment and a train derailment near a rail depot, which has had a knock-on effect on services across several key routes. Engineers and response teams are working to resolve the issues, but significant delays and cancellations are expected to continue into the evening.
Services operated by Southern Rail, Thameslink and London Overground have all been affected. Passengers are being advised to check before they travel and allow extra time for their journeys, as timetables may change at short notice.
Train operators say some routes are experiencing reduced services, while others are seeing longer journey times due to trains and crews being out of position following the earlier incidents. Busy commuter routes into and out of London are among those worst hit, with knock-on disruption spreading across the wider South East rail network.
Rail companies have apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and frustration caused, particularly for those travelling to work, school or important appointments. They say safety remains the top priority and that repairs and investigations are being carried out as quickly as possible.
Passengers are being urged to use online journey planners, station information boards and social media updates for the latest travel advice. Where possible, travellers are encouraged to consider alternative routes or delay non-essential journeys until services are more stable.
