As darker nights set in, many runners, especially women, adjust their routines or avoid running altogether due to safety concerns. ItsRunByHer, a female-only running group, is determined to change that with the launch of its Safer Steps campaign.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about safety in running spaces and to encourage communities to come together to make outdoor exercise safer and more inclusive for everyone.
To kick things off, ItsRunByHer hosted a special community event on Wednesday, 8th of October at West Park in Bognor Regis. The evening featured a mix of running, walking, and open conversations about experiences, challenges, and practical ways to make public spaces feel safer for all.
V2 Radio's Steve Freeguard was there, "I was honestly shocked at the stories that were told about men exposing themselves to women runners when they are out, so it's a very good cause."
While ItsRunByHer is known for being a women-led initiative, this event is open to everyone, regardless of gender. The organisers hope it will inspire solidarity and collective action to ensure no one feels unsafe pursuing their passion for running.
