Selsey Classic Car Club Protest

A classic car group banned from using a carpark in Selsey will take to the streets today in protest.

Members of the Manhood Peninsular Classic Car Club who meet informally at East Beach every month, were told by Chichester District Council they can no longer gather there due to Health and Safety.

Today they will meet at in Chichester, drive around the bypass to Bognor and Fishbourne roundabouts, then through Chichester and down to Selsey where some members will go to East Beach and then onto the old Check a Trade HQ at Ellis Square where they will gather from 11am to 3pm.

A statement released by a spokesperson for Chichester District Council on the banning of the group at East Beach Carpark reads:

‘We understand that the car club may be disappointed with the current situation. The council has been in communication with the club since early December, since being made aware that the events were taking place on our land. Any events that take place in our car parks must meet a number of requirements — this is to protect the public, the event organiser, and the landowner.  ‘We are in the process of developing a policy that will further outline the council’s position on the types of events and activities that may be considered appropriate to take place in council car parks, and this will be considered by the council’s Cabinet at a future date.’
