Siobhan Melia appointed NHS Community Network Chair

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) Chief Executive, Siobhan Melia, was recently appointed as Chair of the NHS Community Network which is hosted by the NHS Confederation and NHS Providers.

The Network provides support and a voice for national NHS community health service providers. It champions good practice, influences national policy, and promotes a vision for integrated care in the community.

Siobhan Melia said:

“During my time as Chair, I will continue to raise the profile of the valuable contribution that community services make to the NHS, and champion the ever-increasing role they will play in the future. There is so much innovation happening in community care, and it’s important that people (including our partners across the health and social care system) understand what an integral part we play in keeping patients healthy and helping them to maintain a good quality of life."

On taking on the Community Network Chair role, Siobhan said:

“It’s a real privilege to become the Chair of the Community Network at this point in time as it feels like a real moment of opportunity for the community sector.”

She also highlights some priorities for the Community Network, including:

“We need to look at the extensive care backlogs and make sure those challenges are really well understood.

“We also need to consider what long Covid services need to look like in the future.

“We really need to think about some innovative solutions to create the future workforce that we all need.”
