A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is now in place across the South.
The Met Office says it will be in force until 21:00 (31/07/2025.)
The forecaster warns motorists of hazardous conditions, with spray and sudden flooding potentially causing difficult journeys and road closures.
Heavy downpours or lightning strikes could also lead to delays and possible cancellations on train and bus services.
There’s a slight risk of power outages, which may disrupt services to homes and businesses.
In some areas, rapid flooding remains a possibility, with the potential for property damage caused by floodwater, lightning, hail, or strong winds.

Thunderstorm Safety Tips:
1. Take Shelter Immediately

Go indoors as soon as you hear thunder. If you're outside, find shelter in a sturdy building or a car (avoid convertibles).
-
Avoid open fields, hilltops, or standing under trees.
2. Stay Away from Water
-
Don’t swim, bathe, or use taps during a storm. Lightning can travel through plumbing.
3. Avoid Electrical Appliances
-
Stay off wired electronics and avoid using corded phones. Use mobile phones only if necessary.
4. Unplug Devices
-
Unplug sensitive electronics like TVs and computers to protect them from power surges.
5. Stay Away from Windows and Doors
-
Strong winds or lightning can break glass or cause debris to fly indoors.
