The ‘fantastic’ LOVE Local High Street Family Events Programme of FREE arts activities on the High Street in Littlehampton continues on Saturday August 21st with a carnival atmosphere of live steel pan and the chance to create a giant new mural for the town.
Award-winning South Coast social enterprise, UCanSpray will be setting up a giant mural on the High Street and inviting everyone of all ages to get involved in creating a new piece of art for the town. Participants will learn how to make art using non-toxic chalk sprays and then get hands on joining in to make a giant 6-metre mural. Insect themed, to reflect a love for our natural world, the artwork will later be used as unique decoration for one of the city’s community centres.
In the centre of the High Street, brilliant local steel pan band Sussex Steel, which started life as a school group at TLA before becoming an independent charity, will be bringing a carnival atmosphere to the town centre with performances by their youth, community and professional groups. The LOVE Local programme is as much about celebrating the creative work of local young people as well as sharing great arts events for the whole family, so it’s brilliant to be showcasing the work of children and young people from across the town. The youth band will be on 12 – 1 and adult bands from 1.30pm.
Alongside these events, the #StepintoColour exhibition showcasing photography reimagining the town centre by A-Level students at The Littlehampton Academy will continue at the old Hartleys store, 61 – 63 High Street (until Sept 10th) and everyone is invited to get involved in the #PictureLittlehampton community photography challenge all month.
