Volunteers return to Fontwell care home

A care home in Fontwell has welcomed back volunteers who come to the home and bring a range of skills and interests to share with the residents.

Following the relaxation of a number of the Covid-19 restrictions, staff and residents are thrilled to have friends of Westergate House through the doors once again.  Emily, a student, who is granddaughter to one of the residents plays piano in the lounge.  As a Grade 8 piano student, Emily entertains all with her beautiful renditions of classical melodies.

There is a magical hush about the lounge when everyone listens to her play with such talent and accomplishment.  Annie is another volunteer who Westergate House consider a firm friend.  Annie visits residents on a one-to-one basis and spends time chatting, playing board games and reminiscing about times gone by.  Four-legged friends join the home too.

Once a week, Pet Therapy volunteers join us with their dogs so that residents can enjoy stroking the pets and remembering fond times from the past when they had their own animals.

General Manager at Westergate House, Paul Middleton-Russell, commented: “It is wonderful to welcome back friends and volunteers to our home.  There is a buzz of excitement again as we plan fun activities.  We love the variety of life that our volunteers bring and share with our residents.”
