People in and around Midhurst are being urged once again to shop local this Christmas.
The town is still recovering after the Angel Inn – a major high-street hotel – was destroyed by fire, causing a sharp drop in footfall and affecting many nearby businesses.
A new promotional video has been released to boost support for local traders, following last year’s viral film.
Director of Scafell Media, Samuel Pearson says: "As a local business ourselves, and with time on our hands, in December 2024 we created a short promotion for the town, in which 15-20 local businesses played a part in featuring and reading out the classic ‘a visit from saint Nick’ poem. This video took off and surpassed more than 20,000 views in under 48 hours, being circulated and promoted on social media by an overwhelming number of locals. At its core, this video promoted ‘shopping local at Christmas"
"This year, with local businesses still struggling, we wanted to do it again, only this time, with more planning, higher production value and a lot more help. Unfortunately, despite last year's success, the local council we're reluctant to provide any funding, so we put our own money into the project, pulling favors with our regular London crew and friends, all of whom generously gave their time and experience for free. A local family (Nick, Sarah & Isabella) also very kindly volunteered to feature in the film AND let us film in their beautiful home. A testament to the local spirit that fueled last year's film."
