Welcome windfall for Rox

A well-known music and arts charity West Sussex is benefitting from a lovely donation from a local business who won £2,500 in a competition.

Sri, who owns a shop on London Road in Bognor Regis has chosen to donate the lump sum to Rox Music and Arts without "hesitation".

It comes as the music and arts scene is struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sri says he goes way back with the charity as he supplied them with basic food supplies to enable them to feed their army of volunteers at the annual Music & Arts Festival which was last held in 2017.

Sri was one of the lucky winners in a retailer competition organised by Mondelēz International, owners of famous brands such as Cadbury, Oreo, Maynards Bassetts, Trebor and Halls.

The company’s ambition was to help retailers and their communities after an unprecedented 6 months following the lockdown period. As part of the promotion-winning retailers not only won a prize for their business but also an opportunity to donate funds to a charity of their choice.

Since setting up shop at 51a London Road, Sri has been a part of the local community for years and has always supported local charities. He even runs a youth cricket team in his spare time but was completely bowled over when he won £2,500 to donate to a local good cause.

Historically, the festival attracted over 35,000 people to the town every year which generated the lion’s share of funding that kept the organisation going.

Sadly, ROX has been unable to facilitate any events this year and all planned activities were put on hold which meant core funding was dwindling away.

ROX founder, Steve Goodheart said, “While I’ve known and worked with Sri for many years and he’s a great all-round member of the community, this act of generosity came completely out of the blue and couldn’t have come at a better time.

"This cash top-up now means that we are able to build on plans that we’ve been discussing to help Bognor Regis ‘build back
better’ and we can’t thank Sri and Mondelēz International enough”.
