Gladiators at Fishbourne Roman Palace

Step back in time and enjoy the thrill of Gladiators in action on the weekend of 12th and 13th August 2023, it promises to be a thrilling, action-packed day as the Gladiators take up their arms at Fishbourne Roman Palace.

The Gladiators of Britannia will bring alive the sights and sounds of the Roman amphitheatre with displays of gladiatorial contests in the Palace’s formal garden. Portraying the wide range of people who found themselves in the arena, the Gladiators will use a variety of fighting techniques against each other, before the crowd decides on the fate of the loser.

Gladiators were often criminals and soldiers who had rebelled on the wrong site in mutinies alongside slaves born and bred to flight.

The gladiators will be armed with a sword, shield or helmet ready to show off different fighting techniques before the crowd decides who wins. The Gladiators will be on hand to talk about their equipment and training regime.

Ally Sherrick, award-winning children’s author, will also be joining us for book signing, talks and readings from her book Vita & the Gladiator.
