Football fans across Sussex and the south coast can look forward to a packed weekend of action, with several sides taking to the pitch in key fixtures.
At the Amex Stadium, Brighton & Hove Albion are back in Premier League action this afternoon with a 3pm kick-off against Tottenham Hotspur. Roberto De Zerbi’s side will be aiming to build on their strong home form, but Spurs arrive in good shape and looking to underline their own ambitions near the top of the table. The meeting promises to be one of the standout clashes of the weekend, with plenty of attacking talent on display.
Attention also turns to the women’s game on Sunday as Brighton & Hove Albion Women host West Ham United Women at the Broadfield Stadium in Crawley. Albion will be eager to put on a show for their home supporters and secure valuable points in the Women’s Super League.
In League One, Portsmouth continue their excellent start to the season with a home fixture at Fratton Park against Sheffield Wednesday. Kick-off is this afternoon, and John Mousinho’s men will hope the famous Fratton Park atmosphere can drive them to another strong result against a side that always provides a stern challenge.
Southampton, meanwhile, are on their travels in the Championship as they face Hull City. The Saints have been steadily finding form and will be targeting another positive performance on the road to keep their promotion hopes alive.
In League Two, Crawley Town are away at Meadow Lane to take on Notts County. Scott Lindsey’s team have enjoyed a spirited campaign so far, but this represents a tough assignment against a Notts side who are always difficult to beat at home.
Non-league football also features prominently this afternoon. Worthing are in National League South action with a 3pm kick-off at home against Tonbridge Angels. The Rebels will be hoping to maintain their momentum in front of their supporters at Woodside Road.
Worthing Women are also in action, hosting Moneyfields FC. They will be looking to follow the men’s side with a strong home display of their own.
Chichester City take to the road in the Isthmian League, travelling to Wingate & Finchley. The trip to north London is another chance for City to test themselves away from Oaklands Park as they continue to push for progress this season.
Finally, Selsey are in cup action today in the FA Vase. They face Amesbury Town at home in the second qualifying round, with the tie set for a 3pm kick-off. The Blues will be eyeing a place in the next round and a memorable run in the competition.
It all adds up to a busy weekend for football followers across Sussex, from the Premier League down to the grassroots game.
