Portsmouth man charged with six offences following series of burglaries and attempted break-ins

A 54-year-old man has been charged with six offences following a series of burglaries, attempted break-ins and the theft of an e-scooter across Portsmouth.

Mark Young, of Deal Road, Portsmouth, was arrested following investigations by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary's Buckland and Nelson Neighbourhoods Team.

The charges relate to incidents reported between June and October, including break-ins at businesses and repeated attempts to gain entry to a garage.

Police say the first reported burglary took place during the early hours of 17 September, when entry was forced to Pompey Car Sales on Estella Road.

Damage was caused to a door and lock, although nothing was reported stolen.

A second burglary was reported on 29 September at Smile Servicing and Repairs Ltd on London Road.

Officers were told that entry had been forced to the premises and equipment and tools had been stolen.

Police also investigated three attempted break-ins at a garage on Stanley Road, which were reported on 10 October, 16 October and 17 October.

All three attempts were unsuccessful, and nothing was reported stolen.

The investigation also included the reported theft of an e-scooter from Portsmouth's International Ferry Port on 28 June.

Following enquiries into the incidents, officers arrested and charged Young with six offences.

These include three counts of attempted burglary of a non-dwelling with intent to steal, one count of burglary of a non-dwelling involving theft, one count of burglary of a non-dwelling with intent to steal, and one count of theft of a motor vehicle.

Young appeared before Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 21 October, where he was granted conditional bail.

He is due to appear next at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday 6 November.
