Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower has reopened to visitors following a brief closure for an operational handover.
All three viewing decks are open again, offering views across Portsmouth Harbour, the Solent and the surrounding coastline during the October half-term break.
The 170-metre waterfront landmark, whose attractions include a glass floor high above the harbour, is now managed by Company of Cooks in partnership with Landsec, which owns Gunwharf Quays.
Spinnaker Kitchen & Bar also opened on Saturday 24 October, initially operating with a limited menu.
The reopening coincides with half-term activities at Gunwharf Quays. Its free Haunted Highway event features a collection of film and television-inspired vehicles displayed along the waterfront throughout the week.
Castaway Cove Presents Oktoberfest is also offering Bavarian-inspired food and drink, live Oompah music and interactive games on The Plaza from Thursday to Sunday.
Yvonne Clay, Centre Director at Gunwharf Quays, welcomed the tower’s reopening and said the attraction played an important role in Portsmouth’s visitor economy.
“With families enjoying the half-term break, it’s the perfect opportunity to rediscover the incredible views and unique experiences that Spinnaker Tower has to offer,” she said.
Portsmouth City Council leader Councillor Steve Pitt said the reopening was positive news for the city.
“The Spinnaker Tower is a hugely important Portsmouth landmark, so it’s good to see it open and welcoming visitors again,” he said.
He added that the council was pleased to be working with Gunwharf Quays on the tower’s next chapter and welcomed continued investment in Portsmouth’s waterfront and visitor attractions.
