V2 Radio News Editor Philip Keeler takes listeners behind the scenes to explain how the station covered Storm Austen as it swept across Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Philip was up at 5am on Friday 23 October and remained on duty until 6pm, following a fast-moving story that brought disruption to roads, railways and ferry services.
The storm brought powerful gusts, fallen trees and power cuts. In Brighton, a large section of the historic West Pier collapsed into the sea, while gusts reached 70 miles an hour in Bognor Regis.
As the situation developed, V2 Radio kept listeners updated through bulletins and a live blog, bringing together information from emergency services, transport operators and people across the region.
Listen to V2 Radio News Editor Philip Keeler explain how the team covered Storm Austen, and go behind the scenes in the V2 Radio newsroom.
There'll be more from The Newsroom soon, keep checking the local news pages of V2RADIO.CO.UK for the next episode.
