Residents in Durrington, near Worthing, are being invited to have their say on new transport proposals aimed at reducing traffic congestion, improving road safety and making bus journeys faster and more reliable.
West Sussex County Council has launched a public consultation on plans which could see improvements to pedestrian crossings, changes to busy junctions and new measures to help buses move more efficiently along The Boulevard.
The proposals are designed to make travelling around Durrington easier for residents, particularly those heading to work, schools, local shops and Durrington-on-Sea railway station.
The latest plans follow a consultation held in 2024, when the county council sought views on a wider range of transport improvements between Durrington and Goring.
Feedback gathered during that exercise has helped shape the revised proposals, which now focus more specifically on the Durrington area, including The Boulevard.
Among the changes being considered are improved pedestrian crossings to make walking safer and more convenient, bus priority measures to reduce delays and improvements to junctions to ease congestion and improve road safety.
The scheme forms part of the West Sussex Transport Plan, which aims to support healthier communities, reduce environmental impacts and strengthen the local economy.
Councillor Erika Woodhurst-Trueman, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at West Sussex County Council, said: "We know that traffic congestion, noise and air pollution are real concerns for local communities. These proposals are designed to support better journeys for everyone by improving public transport, making walking, wheeling and cycling more attractive, and also helping ease traffic flow.
"We want to hear residents' views to help shape the future of these proposals, so I would encourage anyone with an interest in the area to take part in the consultation."
As part of the consultation, two public drop-in events will take place in November, giving residents the chance to examine the plans and speak directly with members of the project team.
The first event will be held on Monday 9 November, between 4pm and 7pm, at The Pavilion, Durrington High School, The Boulevard, Worthing.
A second session will take place on Thursday 12 November, from 3pm until 7pm, at Worthing Indoor Bowls Club, 1 Field Place, The Boulevard.
Residents who cannot attend either event can view the proposals and complete an online survey through the council's consultation website.
The county council says the feedback will help refine the designs and determine whether the proposals should progress to the next stage.
However, the scheme remains at an early stage, and any improvements would be dependent on securing the necessary funding.
The consultation is open until 11.55pm on Monday 30 November 2026.
