Family 'determined to pursue justice' for murdered Edinburgh mother after prime suspect found dead in jail

Vikki Soloman's family remain "determined to pursue justice" for the murdered mother after the prime suspect in the case died in prison.

Lee Greenan, 46, had been accused of killing ex-partner Ms Soloman, 44, at a house in Edinburgh's Craigievar Square last Monday.

Police Scotland said the aesthetician was found with serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Greenan was arrested and charged in connection with the death and appeared before Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, where he made no plea to three separate charges - assault to injury, murder, and assault.

He was remanded in custody and was due back in the dock within eight days.

Police Scotland said the suspect was found dead at HMP Edinburgh on Sunday morning.

In a statement released on Monday afternoon, the force said: "Following the heartbreaking loss of Vikki Soloman, her family is deeply moved and overwhelmed by the wave of love and supportive messages which brings great comfort at this devastating time.

"The community's solidarity provides the family great strength as they feel the profound loss and grief of losing Vikki, taken so young and in such tragic circumstances. The loss of a devoted mother has left an irreplaceable loss.

"Furthermore, news of the passing of Lee Greenan, the man charged with her murder, is another bitter blow to the family. The family remains determined to pursue justice for Vikki.

"Their primary focus now is on her two children and are committed to ensuring they are safe, supported and surrounded by their mother's lasting legacy of love.

"The family kindly asks for privacy as they grieve and focus on supporting the boys. Details of funeral arrangements will be shared in due course."

Police Scotland told Sky News officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with Ms Soloman's death.

A spokesperson added: "Around 8.55am on Sunday, we were made aware of the death of a 46-year-old man at HMP Edinburgh.

"There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) said: "Every death, whether in prison custody or in our communities, is a tragedy for all those who knew and supported the individual.

"Following the death of someone in our care, Police Scotland are advised, and the matter reported to the procurator fiscal. Fatal accident inquiries are held in due course."

Local businesswoman Ms Soloman was the owner of Vikki Soloman Aesthetics.

Scottish Liberal Democrats leader Alex Cole-Hamilton worked closely with Ms Soloman as new laws governing the beauty and aesthetics sector passed through Holyrood in March.

Mr Cole-Hamilton, the MSP for Edinburgh North Western, said: "This is a shocking development.

"Deaths in custody always lead to searching questions for the prison service. However, my thoughts today turn to Vikki's family who may be denied answers about why Vikki was snatched from them at such a young age.

"Her death is a stark reminder of how far we need to travel as a society to make sure women and children are safe from men's violence in their own homes."
