Sunday, 11 January 2026 15:00

A bride and groom were among eight people killed in a gas cylinder blast just hours after a wedding reception in Pakistan.

Seven were also injured in the explosion in the capital, Islamabad, on Sunday.

Police said the blast happened as guests were sleeping at a house, which caused part of the building to collapse.

Officers said the blast, which they are now investigating, also damaged some nearby homes.

Many Pakistani households rely on liquified petroleum gas cylinders due to low natural gas pressure.

Such cylinders have been linked to deadly accidents caused by gas leaks.

Sahibzada Yousaf, a government administrator, said authorities were alerted to the blast early in the day.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered his condolences to the victims' families, according to a statement from his office.

Police investigations are ongoing.
