Littlehampton’s Bonfire Society says its annual event is run entirely by volunteers, not the council.
Rising costs in the region of £34,000 - £35,000 a year mean the group relies on fundraising and community support.
Organisers are urging more people to join and help keep the town’s bonfire celebrations alive for the future.
Littlehampton’s Bonfire Society says "Organising and staging the event is hard work, but we have a of fun along the way.
"Please consider about becoming a members of LBS. Membership is cheap, and enables you to get more actively involved.
"Please come and join us, your bonfire society needs you!
"We really need the help from the people of Littlehampton as we want to keep the flame alight for many years to come."
They’ve set up a JustGiving page for donations https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/littlehampton-bonfire-society?utm_medium=CR&utm_source=CL
