Arundel skate park set for upgrade

Canada Road Skate Park in Arundel is being upgraded with a design including features chosen by residents and local skaters.

The new design was shaped by public consultation last year and has been approved by a local focus group of skaters.

Concrete skatepark company, Canvas Spaces Ltd, has been chosen to deliver the improvements with a concept that incorporates ramps with street-style furniture.

Their design includes all the items requested by the public and skaters including steps, a variety of ramps, a handrail and a layout that is fully inclusive to sports wheelchair users.

Concrete ramps were chosen instead of metal or wood because they are quieter and smoother to ride.

The new park has been designed to cater for all abilities and will be suitable for first-time skaters.

There is also an area for spectators and a fully accessible path leading to the park.

Councillor Samantha-Jayne Staniforth, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services at Arun District Council, has made a video to promote the skate park.

She said, “It is so important in a community to have these outdoor spaces for people of all ages to engage.

"Being in the fresh air and exercising is vital for our health.

"The fact that we have been able to incorporate all the things you have asked for in the new design shows how great it is for us all to work together to deliver a truly exciting project.”

Residents can view and comment on the plans until 5 March 2021.
